Turandot is a fairy tale set in a magical and grand China, where – amidst enigmas to be solved, princes of the Orient, gongs of fate, executioners and sumptuous imperial palaces – the story of the Princess with the Heart of Ice comes to life. In this adaptation for family audiences, director Andrea Bernard chooses a museum as the setting for the story, where visitors include the young Calaf, with his father Timur and Liù. The mysterious world of Turandot materialises and reverberates among statues, fine ceramics, traditional costumes and period prints. The reading of an ancient manuscript enlivens the museum’s artworks, and visitors are catapulted into the riddles of Princess Turandot, who – with the help of Ping, Pong and Pang, three statues from the Terracotta Army – is waiting for nothing more than to find true love and be remembered forever.
As part of the 23rd Daegu International Opera Festival, Daegu Opera House presents Turandot. Enigmi al Museo, an imaginative adaptation of Giacomo Puccini's masterpiece, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the opera's world premiere. Presented as a co-production between Daegu Opera House and Teatro Sociale di Como / AsLiCo in Italy, this production brings AsLiCo's acclaimed Opera Domani educational opera programme to Korean audiences. Designed especially for young audiences, the production offers an interactive theatrical experience supported by educational materials and preparatory activities, encouraging children to actively participate in the performance. Beyond introducing children to the world of opera, the project aims to inspire a new generation of opera lovers. The production also forms part of Daegu Opera House's Global Young Artist Project, bringing together emerging opera singers from around the world in two casts. Selected through an international audition process, these young artists share the stage, transcending linguistic and cultural boundaries through the universal language of music.
