The Royal Academy of Music welcomes eminent orchestral and opera conductor Christoph von Dohnányi to recieve an Honorary Doctorate. Dohnányi has performed at the world's top opera houses including Covent Garden, La Scala, Berlin and Paris as well as regular guest appearances with the Vienna Philharmonic and Zurich Opera. In addition to his opera directorships in Frankfurt and Hamburg, he has held principal conducting posts in Germany, Paris and with the Philharmonia in London, with whom he was Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor for ten years. During his monumental twenty-year tenure as Music Director of the Cleveland Orchestra, Dohnányi conducted a staggering 1,000 concerts, fifteen international tours and 24 world premieres, and recorded over 100 works on disc.
Today's event includes the formal presentation of the Honorary Doctorate, and a performance by the Academy Concert Orchestra of Schubert's 'Unfinished' Symphony, on which they have worked with Maestro Dohnányi.
