Romantic imaginations were readily inspired by the moon, Earth’s mysterious companion, symbol of divine transcendence. Ilker Arcayürek, hailed by the Guardian for his rare ability to put ‘across words beautifully, with power in reserve yet a hint of vulnerability too’, highlights the many ways in which our alluring neighbour was depicted by Schubert in settings of some of the most evocative and emotionally powerful poetry. The Turkish-born Austrian tenor is joined by Ammiel Bushakevitz, among the most sensitive and engaging of song recital partners.
