Celebrate life, English history and the thrill of music-making with an uplifting commission from Ivor Novello-winning composer Jonathan Dove, alongside a collection of distinctly English works from Elgar, Vaughan Williams and Parry.

Musical Director David Hill and The Bach Choir share a remarkable history. In 2026, The Bach Choir celebrated its 150th anniversary, and in 2027 its Musical Director of 27 years, David Hill, will celebrate his 70th birthday. From Parry’s Blest Pair of Sirens, commissioned for The Bach Choir in 1887, to their former Musical Director Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending, and Jonathan Dove’s new anniversary commission entitled This Green Earth, this very special concert will commemorate The Bach Choir and David Hill’s shared passion for both the past and future of the English choral tradition. Dove’s new work is secular but spiritual, and celebrates life itself.

The Bach Choir will be joined by the Philharmonia Orchestra, fresh from celebrating their own 80th anniversary, and the evening will open with a very special birthday ode to Hill from Dove’s fellow Ivor Novello-winning composer Richard Blackford.

Don’t miss this once-in-a-generation celebration of the glorious past and future of English choral music.

This concert is supported by Cockayne Grants for the Arts, a Donor Advised Fund, held at The Prism Charitable Trust.
