Stockhausen’s last electronic piece, plus a new adventure from experimental composer and turntablist Shiva Feshareki: Bab-Khaneh: Gatehouse of Memory. A wondrous finale to a day of sonic innovation.

'Bab-Khaneh', an ancient Persian term that translates to “gatehouse on the wall", and the likely origin of the word ‘Barbican’. Feshareki’s new work acts as a sonic survey of the Barbican Hall’s acoustics and design, using the Hall and a custom immersive sound system as an instrument, Feshareki sculpts her spatial turntable performance from scratch live in the moment, deeply intertwining orchestral and electronic sound in a one-off web of memory.

Karlheinz Stockhausen never let his imagination be chained to any one world. In his final electronic work, he imagined himself weaving music “as if I had to compose the orbits of 24 moons or 24 planets”. Cosmic Pulses, his 2007 cult classic, was the result – a late, dizzyingly imaginative vision from one of the defining geniuses of our time.
