The feel good hit of the 1870s.
Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial by Jury was the Mamma Mia! of the 1870s, running for hundreds of performances and touring as far as the USA and Australia.
It’s part courtroom comedy, part love story. Edwin has broken off his to Angelina – so she decides to sue him for breach of contract. But it all gets very complicated when the jury shows it’s far from impartial.
The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment was approached big band leader John Wilson for this, its first full-length performance of a Gilbert and Sullivan opera, as well as hits from G&S favourites including The Mikado, Pirates of Penzance and HMS Pinafore. Hear them as you’ve never quite heard them before, performed on instruments from the time the music was written.
