Festival: Boston Early Music Festival

Biographie

June 9 - 16, 2019

Founded in 1981, the biennial Boston Early Music Festival is North America's premier celebration of Early Music, showcasing engaging performances of masterpieces from the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical periods. Over 15,000 music lovers converge on historic Boston for a weeklong event featuring fully-staged Baroque opera, lively concerts from the world's finest artists and ensembles, a 4-day Exhibition gathering Early Music professionals from across the globe, and dozens of concurrent events and fringe concerts all week-long.

The centerpiece of each Festival is a fully-staged opera production featuring dazzling costumes, breathtaking sets, and gorgeous period staging. BEMF’s GRAMMY Award-winning Musical Directors Paul O’Dette and Stephen Stubbs and Stage Director Gilbert Blin are dedicated to unearthing lesser-known gems of the Baroque – many of them North American premieres – bringing them to life on the BEMF stage with critically acclaimed singers, Baroque dancers, and our own all-star BEMF Orchestra.

In addition to the biennial Festival, BEMF presents an annual concert series in Boston and New York City, has won numerous accolades for a series of Baroque opera recordings, and tours regularly. For nearly four decades, BEMF’s commitment to excellence has helped establish Boston as North America’s capitol of Early Music.
