The Ambronay Festival takes place in a magnificent setting and it introduces baroque music through great names and talented young artists
The Festival is primarily a festival of baroque music. It presents renowned ensembles, orchestral and vocal music as well as young ensembles.
It is a held in an old Abbey in the countryside of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in France. The region is located 50 minutes from Lyon and 30 minutes from Bourg-en-Bresse.
There are several concert halls. The halls are located on the site of the Abbey of Ambronay. The majority of baroque concerts take place in the abbey church. Two other halls host concerts: the Monteverdi Hall and the Multipurpose Hall. The Festival also has a place for festival-goers to rest, eat and drink, do activities etc. The area around the Abbey is also made up of gardens and parks.
All day long, conferences, workshops for children, amateur stages, visits are offered free of charge to festival goers.
There is no dress code. People come dressed as they would for any day. Sometimes it can be rainy and windy. We advise to bring a hooded coat.
The Festival has a bar and restaurant area. Reservations must be made in advance. There are several restaurants in the vicinity, for which reservations are also required. The selection for accommodation is not very large, it is better to book hotels or guest houses in advance.
The Festival is in the heart of a beautiful Abbey, in a wine region. Tours are organised throughout the Festival. In the vicinity, tourists can visit the Château des Allymes, the Bonnet Silk Museum, the medieval city of Pérouges and the caves of Cerdon.
