Myths and Legends

At the upcoming seventh edition of the classical music festival (26th July – 3rd August 2025), the first of the four symphony concerts will be accompanied by a first-class choir. In addition to great symphonic music, there is also room for intimate chamber music.

Three renowned pianists will make the piano a centrepiece of the eleven concerts.

About the festival
“This year’s motto, “Myths and Legends”, is perfectly suited to the canton of Graubünden, as many legends have been preserved over the centuries in this mountainous area with its rugged mountain passes and old castles,” says Heinz Brand, president of the foundation Kunst & Musik, Klosters.

At the opening concert, “Triumph and Tragedy”,with the Munich Chamber Orchestra (conductor: Enrico Onofri), Haydn’s “Nelson” mass, sung by the Zurich Sing-Akademie, meets Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor and Ludwig van Beethoven’s tragic “Coriolan” overture. The concert on 27 July offers an all-Beethoven evening with the “Prometheus” overture, the 1st Piano Concerto (piano: Piotr Anderszewski) and the 3rd Symphony “Eroica”. The final weekend with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen (conductor: Jérémie Rhorer) will feature Romantic highlights such as Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto (violin: Augustin Hadelich) on 2nd August, his 5th Symphony and Rachmaninov’s 2nd Piano Concerto (piano: Nikolai Lugansky) on 3rd August 2025.

Ever since the first edition of the Klosters festival, Sir András Schiff has been a regular guest. In addition to a recital devoted to the Romantic period, the pianist will perform Schumann’s “Liederkreis” op. 39 together with mezzo-soprano Ema Nikolovska in St. Jakob’s Church, while Andreas Ottensamer, principal clarinettist with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet with his friends the Schumann Quartet.

Further highlights include the family concert “Peter and the Wolf”; film music evening “Chicago” with live orchestra music; Igudesman& Joo, music comedy; exhibition “Myths and Legends” (Patrick Devonas).

St. Jacob’s Church

The church of St. Jacob in Klosters is the main concert room for Klosters Music. The building is fabulous for its acoustic and warmth atmosphere.

In the church of St. Jacob itself there is always something unknown to discover or old familiar things to see with new eyes.

There’s the history of the church's origins, the exciting interior of the church tower and the wonderful stained glass windows by Augusto Giacometti. And last but not least St. Jacob’s Church has a wonderful new organ, built by Orgelbau Goll in Luzern and inaugurated in October 2018.
