Twyla@60: A Tharp Celebration is an overall triumph though not just for Tharp, but for Susan Jaffe’s vision for American Ballet Theatre.

ABT's Swan Lake suffered due an obvious lack of rapport between its lead dancers but there was still some fine dancing on offer.

Bond’s La Boutique was delightful, Abraham’s Mercurial Son, a little disappointing but Lander's Études sent the audience home happy.

I have a theory that Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet is a perfect starter ballet. It is harder for experienced ballet regulars to work up the same enthusiasm for this ballet. 

Two very promising debuts in the lead roles and good performances in the supporting roles, made this an enjoyable Onegin.

Wheeldon lacks the imagination to take this story beyond that of a well-crafted adaptation of a beloved movie.

If the audience response was not very enthusiastic, it's because Ratmansky's Sleeping Beauty four years after its premiere still comes across as more of a museum piece than a living, breathing ballet. This is a Beauty that never really wakes up.

Perhaps ABT's disclaimer in the program notes should have simply said: "When you watch Le Corsaire, prepare to be both offended and entertained. We hope you'll be more entertained than offended."

If you love Jane Eyre, stick to the novel. There's more female empowerment in those pages than in Cathy Marston's choreography.

As the wonderful Tharp trio program proves, all these years later Twyla Tharp can still make ballet look cool.

The Seasons is overstuffed, uneven and way too busy. There are so many steps, but they rarely made me "see the music". It was a frustrating ballet, with so many lovely moments that were less than the sum of its parts.
