British bass Brindley Sherratt has been appointed Artistic Director of The Grange Festival, taking up the role this month. He succeeds Michael Chance, who led the company from its foundation in 2016 until his retirement at the end of this year’s festival.
One of Britain’s leading basses and theatre practitioners, Sherratt has performed internationally in roles across the operatic canon. He will continue to perform alongside his new role, including on 1st October, when he sings Gurnemanz in the new Royal Ballet & Opera production of Parsifal, directed by Evgeny Titov.
Sherratt, who has both performed at and attended The Grange as a nearby resident, said he was “deeply honoured” to help shape the festival’s next chapter, highlighting its role in supporting the next generation of British opera artists.
Meanwhile, Tyler Stoops will step down as Chief Executive at the end of October after three years in the role. During his tenure, the festival expanded its programme, audience and membership, while developing cross-genre projects including Queen at the Opera and The Soul of Opera.
The changes come ahead of The Grange Festival’s tenth anniversary season in 2027, with details due to be announced in the coming weeks.
