Theater Regensburg in Bavaria, Germany, will receive the Oper! Award 2026 for Best Opera House of 2025, the awards jury announced yesterday.

The award will be presented in February 2026 during a gala at the Theater Regensburg. The winners of the other 19 award categories – including best director, singers, orchestra, choir, world premiere and stage designer, and biggest nuisance – will be announced at the event.
“We are delighted to be honouring the Theater Regensburg with the Oper! Award for Best Opera House under its own roof,” said Ulrich Ruhnke, Jury Chairman, adding, “the Theater Regensburg shows great readiness to take risks, but its rate of success is high. First-rate quality leads to growing audience numbers, trust, and approval – resulting in recognition regionally and, for quite some time now, nationwide as well.”
Theater Regensburg is Bavariaʼs largest municipal multi-genre theatre with its own ensembles for music theatre, drama, dance and young theatre as well as its own philharmonic orchestra and opera choir.
La Monnaie | De Munt in Brussels was the winner of the 2025 award, while other previous winners have included Dutch National Opera, Oper Dortmund, Staatsoper Hannover and Opernhaus Zürich.
The Oper! Awards are Germanyʼs only publicly awarded international opera prize. They are presented annually at a gala event to the artists and creatives of the international opera scene, working on or behind the stage, chosen across 20 categories by a jury of music journalists.
