Continuing its regular exploration of the Mozart operas, Royal Academy Opera presents the third and last, and most disturbingly enigmatic, of the collaborations between Mozart and Lorenzo Da Ponte – Così fan tutte. No longer drawing on familiar stories (as in Don Giovanni) or adapting existing plays, however controversial (as in Figaro), here Da Ponte invented his own viciously critical commentary on contemporary society. Although the narrative appears light-hearted, even flippant, Mozart and Da Ponte delve beneath its surface to reveal the murky complexities of human behaviour. Royal Academy Opera welcomes the distinguished director John Cox for this production, which is conducted by the Academy’s Director of Opera, Professor Jane Glover.
