The Grand Théâtre de Genève is the largest artistic structure in French-speaking Switzerland. The Geneva opera stage hosts lyric and choreographic productions based on the stagione (season) model and not repertoire. There are also performances of concerts and recitals. The entire programme guarantees the Grand Théâtre visibility on a national and international level. The opera house has several teams, divided between artistic, technical (in workshops or on the set) and administrative professions. Every one of the 350 or so employees of the Grand Théâtre is essential in what they do to successfully create the artistic projects it presents to the public.
Beginning in January 2026, all performances by the Grand Théâtre de Genève in season 2025/26 will be held at the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible, and guests requiring assistance are encouraged to contact the box office. All opera performances feature surtitles in both French and English to enhance accessibility. While there are no childcare facilities on site, the Grand Théâtre de Genève offers a free babysitting service for select events. The dress code is casual, though guests are welcome to dress up. Please note that the theatre hall is not air-conditioned.
The venue is easily accessible by public transport, with the nearest stop being “Stand,” served by tram lines 14 and 15 and bus lines 1 and 80. For those arriving by car, there are three parking facilities within a five-minute walk: Parking Seujet, Parking Hôtel des Finances, and Parking Tribune de Genève.
Inside the venue, a bar offers food and drinks starting one hour before the performance and during the interval, but the venue closes immediately after the show. For a full meal, it is recommended to dine before the performance at one of the nearby restaurants such as Casti, Café des Banques, or Susuru, as most will have stopped serving by the end of the evening.
