Few musicians in the world can ever have had such a strong connection to a composer as The Hallé and Elder have developed with Elgar over the last quarter of a century. 

A marvellously affirmative account of The Kingdom that brought thrilling intensity and evident commitment from the combined forces of the Waynflete Singers and the BSO.

Edward Gardner and Edward Caswell offered the British choir tradition in the form of Elgar's The Kingdom as a refreshingly programmed alternative to the many Bach passions. The combined choirs excelled together with an impressive Edith Haller.

A brave choice for a Proms season opener, but Elgar's ponderous score is presented in the best possible light by the BBC forces.
