The Dresden Music Festival public renew their love for Jan Vogler, who is joined by festival debutants from Parma. 

A mainly French programme of Chabrier, Saint-Saëns and Franck drew mixed performances, but it was a memorable performance of the latter's Symphony in D minor that crowned the evening at Poole's Lighthouse. 

Detlev Glanert's homage to Johannes Brahms as a curtain-raiser to Paul Watkins' performance of Haydn's C major cello concerto and a welcome anticipation of Brahms' first symphony conducted by Semyon Bychkov.

Im Konzert der Orpheum Stiftung waren die Bamberger unter dem sorgfältig gestaltenden Christoph Eschenbach einfühlsame Begleiter zweier hervorragender Jungtalente, des Cellisten Pablo Ferrández und des Pianisten Dmitry Masleev.

Jan Vogler wirkte wenig überzeugend in Dvořáks Cellokonzert. Dafür brillierte die Philharmonia Zürich unter Fabio Luisi in Bruckners Vierter umso mehr, und die Theaterakustik unterstützte die Einzigartigkeit der Darbietung.
