Alexander Melnikov recalls the city’s vitality with an appetising selection of Rossini’s ‘Sins of Old Age’, pieces written or assembled in Paris in the 1850s, and the jaw-dropping virtuosity and brio of Liszt’s transcription of Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique.
