Accordion my love

The accordion was born in Vienna in 1829 and arrived in France in the 1830s and 1840s. Initially conceived as a toy, it quickly became a luxury item, prized in the salons of high society; only at the end of the 19th century did it take on the popular character we associate with it today, spreading to the streets, guinguettes , and other dance venues.

By pairing it with the cello and transcribing great works from the French repertoire for this duo, Félicien Brut and Astrig Siranossian restored the accordion to its original function. The instrument's folkloristic dimension is, however, highlighted for the duration of a song.

The concert is followed by a toast.
