A unique performance of the 1876 Violin Concerto by Swedish composer Amanda Maier-Röntgen with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s Claudia Bonfiglioli (Leader Second Violins) as soloist, and the orchestra performing under the baton of Chief Conductor Sakari Oramo. The orchestra’s cellist Klas Gagge has created the new critical edition of the piece. An initiative from Swedish Musical Heritage.

At only 19, Amanda Maier-Röntgen achieved top marks and in 1872 became Sweden's first female Music Director to graduate from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Her drive and ability led her to Leipzig, in the 1800s a gathering point for musicians and composers, where she continued her studies. She married composer Julius Röntgen and moved to Amsterdam, where the couple's musical salon attracted celebrities such as Nina and Edvard Grieg, Anton Rubinstein, Joseph Joachim, Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms.

Filmed in May 2015.
