There's a taste of magic in the air for the Puccini Festival’s opening production, a centennial Turandot. 

Despite Michieletto's visual gloom, the evening is redeemed by Myung-whun Chung’s masterful conducting and a cast that brings conviction to a production that rarely trusts the opera’s own dramatic power.

Andrei Șerban’s 40 year old take on Puccini's tale of the ice princess largely stands the test of time, but Netrebko and Eyvazov are short of their best form. 

Le rare opéra de Giordano, inégal mais intéressant, fait son retour dans l'institution genevoise avec un plateau vocal de grande qualité, emmené par le duo Roberto Alagna-Aleksandra Kurzak.

La mise en scène de Claus Guth laisse encore une fois sceptique voire irrite, tandis que la direction musicale de Michele Mariotti déçoit. Aylin Pérez compose en revanche une Mimi touchante.

À l'exception de la direction intéressante d'Antonino Fogliani à la tête de l'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, il n'y a pas grand-chose à saluer dans cette production clinquante, dénuée de la moindre cohérence artistique.
