Singing melodies and rapid-fire showmanship from Alexei Grynyuk in Brighton

British cellist Laura van der Heijden proved herself to be the sister of soul on the cello for the second night in succession.

The inaugural Bristol Proms are nearly over. Indeed, if you’re reading this any later than Saturday evening, they’ve been and gone. The festival, run by the Bristol Old Vic, has deliberately been unlike its London namesake.

Last night’s concert in the Usher Hall contained so many different strands, that it defies simple categorisation. One of a series of nine concerts in Scotland, its first objective was clearly to promote Miss Benedetti’s latest CD, The Silver Violin. This recording features tributes to many of the great composers who wrote film music for the silver screen, hence the title.

La Staatskapelle Dresden presentó con Ibermúsica, el Réquiem de Verdi, junto al Orfeó Català y un cuarteto solista de excepción, quienes bajo la atenta batuta de Danielle Gatti ofrecieron una versión pulida y delicada, alejada del dramatismo que en ocasiones permea la obra.

Con un programa contrastante, la Staatskapelle Dresden desplegó un maravilloso sonido y una riqueza de texturas tan inusual como reveladora bajo la batuta de Daniele Gatti.

Un recorrido por el posromanticismo germánico, donde la orquesta invitada logró evocar musicalmente el paisaje emocional y la arquitectura sinfónica de los protagonistas del programa.
