Exuberance in Parsons Dance's program at the Joyce

Richmond Ballet's dancers are an engaging bunch who aim to please and their goodwill radiated from the stage.

From Mozart to Dave Matthews, the Florida Everglades to the Joyce Theater, David Parsons, artistic director and co-founder of Parsons Dance, stated that his goal for Wednesday evening’s program was to create variety, to make sure it was all different. The opening piece, Wolfgang surprised long-time fans of the company with classical music and traditional ballet movement.

Four works – one new, two older and a PNB premiere – display the company in all its imaginative versatility and fine technique.

Acclaimed violinist and 2024 MacArthur Fellow Johnny Gandelsman invited four choreographers to join him on a marathon through Bach's six cello suites. His musicianship was the highlight of the evening.
