Festival: London Piano Festival

Biography

October 3rd October 7th, 2018

The London Piano Festival is an annual festival at Kings Place in London in October. The Festival was co-founded by pianists Charles Owen and Katya Apekisheva in 2016 to critical acclaim. The inaugural Festival in 2016 saw pianists such as Stephen Kovacevich, Kathryn Stott, Alfred Brendel and more come to perform, talk and partake in the celebratory weekend.  Each year the Festival commissions a composer to write a piece for two pianos - 2016 saw Nico Muhly's Fast Patterns and for the 2017 Festival Elena Langer composed RedMare. Charles and Katya's shared love of the instrument has led them to curate this weekend especially for the city’s many piano lovers.

This year’s London Piano Festival features two solo recitals by pianists making their debuts at Kings Place. Russian pianist Konstantin Lifschitz performs a programme of works by Schubert, Janáček and Debussy, and Pavel Kolesnikov performs Couperin and Schumann before they both join the Two-Piano Marathon. Commemorating the centenary of Claude Debussy, concert pianist and writer Paul Roberts presents a lecture/recital in Kings Place’s Hall Two about Debussy’s Piano Music. For this year’s family concert, Alexandra Dariescu brings her ground-breaking multi-media piece The Nutcracker and I, by Alexandra Dariescu for piano soloist, ballerina and digital animation to Kings Place for the first time, following its critically-acclaimed world premiere last year.
