Guide to Steffani Festival Week Hanover

20 February - 1 March 2026, Hanover, Germany
About the festival

The 9th Steffani Festival Week Hanover offers a programme inspired by the theme of “Stars,” exploring humanity’s fascination with the cosmos through music. It features concerts with programmes spanning from the Baroque era to the present, with a strong focus on Agostino Steffani and his musical legacy. There will also be a guided walk in Hanover, for an exploration that connects music, astronomy and architecture.

The festival offers something truly rare: it brings Hanover’s history to life as a genuine experience. Agostino Steffani was not simply a composer from the past, but a European star - artist, networker and diplomat. Baroque music is at its most powerful in the places it belongs: historic venues full of atmosphere. This is exactly what the festival week offers - where music, space and a sense of time come together, and where audiences can make real musical discoveries.

Venues

Agostino Steffani is deeply connected to Hanover’s history: at the court of the House of Welf he was a highly influential figure. Hearing his music performed in Hanover creates a particularly powerful atmosphere—it feels like a return to a place that truly understood him.

Galerie Herrenhausen is a historic festival and exhibition building in the Great Garden (Großer Garten) of the Herrenhausen Gardens. Built at the end of the 17th century, it is part of the Baroque court architecture of Herrenhausen and is especially famous for its grand hall with wall frescoes. The other festival venue, Hanover’s Market Church (Marktkirche), is the most iconic landmark of the old town and an impressive example of North German Brick Gothic.
