The Orchestra of the 18th Century proves the main asset of a rewarding Don Giovanni at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. 

Back for its third run at Dutch National Opera, with a satisfying cast, McBurney's staging wins new converts. 

McBurney's brilliant stagecraft brings child-like wonderment to the most hardened adults; his interpretation and Raphaël Pichon's conducting exude Mozartian rightness.

Kenneth Montgomery leads the Orchestra of the 18th Century and a fine team of young soloists in a swift, finely detailed interpretation of La clemenza di Tito.

With its monumental sets designed by Anish Kapoor, Pierre Audi’s abstract Parsifal at Dutch National Opera is spectacular, led by the excellent Christopher Ventris, with Günther Groissböck shining in his role debut as Gurnemanz. 

Bach’s Magnificat featured superlative solos from both singers and musicians, but the RCO and Iván Fischer reached a higher plane in a beautifully crafted and optimistic Brahms’ First Symphony.

At the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Orchestra of the 18th Century conducted by Kenneth Montgomery gave a lively and expressive performance of Mozart’s Nozze, that emphasized the witty charm of the piece. Soloist included Henk Neven’s aristocratic Count and Ilse Eerens’ delightful Susanna.

Finghin Collins and Rosanne van Sandwijk shine as soloists while the Orchestra of the 18th Century was as authoritative as ever under the baton of Kenneth Montgomery. 

His passing last August was no surprise. Anyone who had witnessed Frans Brüggen conduct in recent years knew that he was far from healthy and old for his years.

On Good Friday, Cappella Amsterdam, conducted by Daniel Reuss, gave a beautifully refined rendition of Bach's St John Passion at the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ in Amsterdam, accompanied by the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century and the riveting Evangelist of Anders Dahlin.
