We are saddened to learn of the death of Alfred Brendel at the age of 94. The Czech-born Austrian (born 1931) was one of the great pianists and musical minds of the 20th and 21st centuries, renowned for his interpretations of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms. Brendel retired from the concert platform in 2008 and spent his final years writing essays about music as well as his own collections of poetry. He leaves a huge recorded legacy.
