A coincidence brought us together: Oleg Stankevych – then a teacher – was escorting Ukrainian children invited to stay with us in the Tyrol to recuperate after Chernobyl in 1986. A friendship developed. Oleg soon convinced us of the great artistic potential of his hometown. Initially works of opera and ballet on this subject were produced in cooperation with the Lviv State Opera. In 2002 we ventured to take the first steps towards the founding of the K&K Philharmoniker in Lviv.
Today the K&K Philharmoniker gives around 100 concerts each year – time and again in the Philharmonic and in Berlin Concert Hall, Helsinki Music Centre and Gewandhaus Leipzig, in the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, the concert halls of Copenhagen, Stockholm, Madrid, Oslo and Paris, and at Vienna's Musikverein.
The K&K Opernchor was established in 2003. It was formed on the basis of the original Lviv Chamber Choir with its director Vasyl Yatsyniak, who studied under Vladimir Minin in Moscow. He assumed responsibility for the performances of this vocal ensemble from the beginning.
The presentations of the Austrian K&K Ballett are created by Viktor Litvinov of the Ukrainian State Opera in Kiev, who builds on the work of the unforgettable Viennese choreographer Gerlinde Dill.
25 live CDs and four concert DVDs document a selection of the diverse repertoire of the K&K ensembles.
