Performer: Paul O'Neill

Wonderful singing, orchestral playing and staging make for a successful performance of Tchaikovsky's opera, with some reservations about the production.

The Perth Symphonic Chorus and Perth Philharmonic Orchestra with a fine quartet of local soloists deliver a satisfactory Verdi Requiem. 

An enjoyable performance of Die Fledermaus from the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and an excellent cast of singers is somewhat mitigated by the venue, as the celebrated Perth Concert Hall undergoes renovation.

The NZSO are on sparkling form in Puccini arias and other operatic orchestral passages; Eliza Boom shows her potential as a Puccini singer of the future.

West Australian Opera's production of Sweeney Todd was an excellent, crackling performance, with everyone involved in top form, with some unexpected players showing great talent in this not-very-operatic work.
