The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO), the ‘nation’s favourite orchestra’, is known for offering a vast variety of repertoire – from popular classics and showstopping Broadway and movie tunes to challenging classical, orchestral works – around the world.

A London-based orchestra, the RPO is proud to accompany the highest calibre of soloists at Cadogan Hall and Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall, where it was recently joined by guitarist John Williams and is soon to perform alongside pianist Marc-André Hamelin and mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly. The Orchestra performs to larger audiences at the Royal Albert Hall, London’s ultimate concert hall, where you can enjoy its annual favourites, such as Symphonic Rock and Tchaikovsky Gala, as well as such one-off extraordinaires as Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl – Live in Concert (April 2014).

The RPO also prides itself in performing at over ten regional UK residencies throughout the year, including Northampton’s Royal & Derngate and Hull City Hall: “We are unlike any other London orchestra in that we perform more outside of London than in. We are committed to ensuring that our regional audiences experience world-class music on their doorsteps too,” says Chris Evans, Director of Press and Marketing. And the UK’s doorsteps aren’t the
only ones the RPO brings music to: last season, the Orchestra partook in over fifteen tours and performed in over forty concerts overseas, including trips to the USA, Mexico, Germany, Spain, Poland and China.

Extending its programme from the traditional concert platform to schools, hospices, prisons, homeless shelters and beyond is RPO resound, the RPO’s innovative and vibrant award-winning community and education programme, with whom thousands of people have benefited from specially trained RPO musicians, who use music as a powerful and
inspirational tool to help encourage and inspire those who wish to learn more about music and enjoy a musical environment.

It’s no wonder that over 400,000 people visit them each year, as this is an orchestra that truly offers a unique blend of music and opportunities in the UK and around the world. Under the awe-inspiring leadership of Artist Director and Principal Conductor Charles Dutoit, the RPO is not just a group of unreachable people who perform pages upon pages of music – which not everyone understands – onstage. Our diversity is our strength, so support us by voting the world-famous Royal Philharmonic Orchestra as the World’s Favourite Orchestra 2014!
