Work: Catfish Row: Symphonic Suite from Porgy and Bess

A concert of Americana characterised by great tunes and infectious rhythms, but lacking emotional involvement and only partially realised communication by soloist Valeriy Sokolov.        

Bernstein's Slava! and Age of Anxiety aren't the best examples of his concert music, but Marin Alsop and the BSO made the best possible case for them.
