Work: Der Rosenkavalier, Op.59: 1st Waltz sequence

Under the baton of Dima Slobodeniouk, stepping in for Joana Mallwitz, the evening swings from Tchaikovsky to Stravinsky and Strauss.

The Philharmonia, Santtu-Matias Rouvali and Benjamin Grosvenor shine in the recreation of an all-Strauss extravaganza that was conducted in 1947 by the composer himself.

The RLPO with their new chief conductor herald a return to full-scale orchestral performances with an evening of dances, plus Clara Schumann's far too rarely heard Piano Concerto.
