Work: El Salón México

In a programme very much rooted in the spirit dance, Britten’s Violin Concerto shines through in Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall. 

Thomas Wilkins conducts the Phoenix Symphony in Grofé’s evocative depiction of the Grand Canyon in a program that also explores a melting pot of Mexican-American influences. 

Despite the big Spanish beasts like Rodrigo and de Falla, it is a small work by contemporary Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz that packs the biggest punch in this programme.
