Work: Introduction and Allegro in D minor for piano and orchestra, Op.134

Ponomarchuk and the LPO raise the spirits in Felix Mendelssohn's Scottish Symphony after an underwhelming first half at the Brighton Dome.

For Friday’s late night prom, Andrew Manze and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra brought a decidedly quirky programme. The Brahms thread continued on from the early evening concert by Haitink and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, but this was Brahms with a strong twist. The only authentic Brahms in the programme were the two Intermezzi from op.

Le pianiste s'est montré capable de restituer toute la richesse et l'originalité d'œuvres rarement jouées en concert, avant une Symphonie « Pastorale » de Beethoven moins imaginative sous la direction de Simone Young.
