Work: Lohengrin: prelude to Act 1

Daniele Rustioni pairs orchestral music of Verdi and Wagner in his concert with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, prior to taking up the post of Guest Principal Conductor in April.

Debutant conductor Thomas Guggeis filled out the programme with a creation of his own – a fusion of Tannhäuser, Lohengrin and Meistersinger.

In his Carnegie Hall debut, the young Czech conductor leads a meaty and memorable program of Brahms and Wagner, with joined by Hélène Grimaud for Robert Schumann’s sole Piano Concerto.
