Work: Ode to Napoleon Buonaparte for Voice, Piano and String Quartet, Op.41

At the Southbank Centre vivid performance of seminal works shows how Schoenberg added colours to the Chameleon and enriched our sound world. 

Friday’s concert served as an interesting showcase of music that, undeservedly, isn’t performed too often. Even though the performances were somewhat lacking, the quality of the music shone through.

You can’t accuse Vladimir Jurowski of lacking ambition. This LPO concert of his, featuring artfully sequenced works by Beethoven, Schoenberg and Nono, was dedicated “to all the people in the world who are still suffering injustice”.
