Alasdair Beatson presented a dazzling programme of 20th-century piano music, with Harrison Birtwistle at its centre. 

Kozhukhin stamped his authority and musicality on this lunchtime recital from the opening notes of the Haydn Sonata to the final fleeting phrase of his second encore.

Featuring Classical to Modernist piano repertoire, the evening was a display of varying styles and challenges that demonstrated Várjon’s adaptability.
