Work: Piano Concerto no. 1, Sz 83

Yuja Wang tackles piano concertos by Bartók and Barber – plus three encores – to delight the Musikverein audience before the Wiener Symphoniker plays persuasive Schumann.

Excellent playing from The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and an interesting programme of less familiar works by familiar composers, made for an exhilarating musical experience.

Dvořák is diminished in the wake of Bartók’s experimental zeal and Strauss’ fearless convolutions.
