From its origins as a wild Portuguese folk dance, it blossomed into one of the Baroque’s most beloved and creative forms. Baroque composers fell head over heels for La Folia: a bassline so compelling that no number of variations could quell its popularity. Star soprano Núria Rial, recorder player Dorothee Oberlinger and violinist and dancer Yves Ytier present highlights from the repertoire.
Ensemble 1700 was founded by Dorothee Oberlinger in 2002. The ensemble specializes in European chamber music from the 17th and 18th centuries. The musicians are renowned for their technical mastery, and their performances are the product of in-depth musicological research. Their lively and varied programmes delight the press and audiences alike.
