The third and final work in a cycle of commissions with the Dunedin Consort, British composer Tansy Davies’ Passion of Mary Magdalene receives its premiere at the Barbican.
The Passion of Mary Magdalene, written especially for the Scottish Baroque ensemble Dunedin Consort, is an opportunity to imagine the Passion story from a woman’s point of view, and a chance to hear contemporary composition played through a Baroque lens.
British composer Tansy Davies was born in Bristol in 1973, going on to win BBC Young Composer in 1996. Her work has been critically acclaimed, with the Guardian highlighting the 'raw intensity of Davies’ writing'.
