Join the Choir of The Queen’s College Oxford and Owen Rees for a festive programme of twentieth- and twenty-first century works by composers connected to the college, including Howells’s Three Carol-Anthems, Leighton’s Three Carols, and selections from David Bednall’s dramatic and evocative Christmas cantata Welcome all Wonders, commissioned by the choir.

‘An undoubted jewel in Britain’s choral scene’ (BBC Music Magazine), the Choir of The Queen’s College Oxford directed by Owen Rees is among the finest and most active university choirs in the UK. Its extensive concert schedule involves appearances across the UK and internationally, and among its acclaimed recordings – including releases with the Academy of Ancient Music and the Britten Sinfonia – the 2018 release of music by John Taverner receive a Diapason d’Or, while Carols from Queen’s enjoyed nine weeks in the Specialist Classical Charts and was a Telegraph Christmas pick.

‘Christmas from Queen’s’ is a festive programme of twentieth- and twenty-first century works showcasing composers connected to the college, including Herbert Howells’s Three Carol-Anthems, Kenneth Leighton’s Three Carols, and selections from David Bednall’s dramatic and evocative Christmas cantata Welcome all Wonders, written for the choir in 2011. We include other Christmas music recorded by the choir, by Cecila McDowall, Dobrinka Tabakova, and Imogen Holst. From Queen’s beautiful baroque Chapel in Oxford to London’s iconic Smith Square Hall, the choir are delighted to be performing an enchanting selection of carols as part of a busy Christmas season.
