Kyohei Sorita, silver medalist in the 18th Chopin International Piano Competition, has earned the nickname “dual-wielder” in the classical music world. Equally accomplished as a performer, composer, and program curator, Sorita has garnered international acclaim for his versatility and artistry. For this program, he presents a selection of masterpieces by Chopin and Brahms — a repertoire that not only echoes the NSO's season theme, A Tribute to Romanticism, but also showcases his astonishing technical brilliance and interpretive depth.

Brahms's Piano Sonata No. 3 and the chorale prelude “Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen” offer intimate glimpses into the composer's early and later creative worlds. The former brims with fiery passion and fervent energy, while the latter, originally written for organ and later transcribed by Busoni, radiates serene beauty and contemplative calm. Chopin's Four Scherzos, by contrast, bear witness to the composer's turbulent emotional journey — and through Sorita's expressive interpretation, audiences are invited to resonate deeply with the inner life of the music.

This performance promises a journey across the landscapes of Romantic intensity and reflection, guided by a pianist whose artistry melds imagination, technique, and heartfelt storytelling.
