For International Women’s Day 2026, OperaVision looks back at the recent centenary of Victoria de los Ángeles, one of the most important sopranos of the 20th century. Born in Barcelona - more precisely at the University of Barcelona, where her father worked as a caretaker - on 1 November 1923. She left an enduring legacy in the world of music.
To commemorate this milestone, the Victoria de los Ángeles Foundation and the Gran Teatre del Liceu present a centenary gala honoring the soprano. Ten of today’s most outstanding female singers came together to revisit the arias and Lieder that Victoria de los Ángeles cherished most and that defined her artistic journey. Conceived by Marc Busquets, curator of the centenary, and staged by French director Vincent Huguet, the gala traces the life and career of Victoria de los Ángeles. The performance featured the Gran Teatre del Liceu Orchestra, conducted by Lucas Macías Navarro.
