A Spectacular Night at the Opera! Opera is and can be so many things. For some, it is the highest possible art form: a divine combination of drama, music, and spectacle. For others, it is overblown and irrational: as American humourist Robert Benchley once quipped ‘Opera is when a guy gets stabbed in the back and, instead of bleeding, he sings’. All these things can be true: and none of it makes opera any less compelling and fantastic to experience. In tonight’s concert, Kazuki Yamada will treat you to some of the most glorious moments in operatic history, full of love, passion, tragedy, and heart-meltingly beautiful music. The combined forces of CBSO and massed choirs are joined by two internationally-renowned soloists. Come and be immersed in opera’s fabulous, wonderfully excessive world.
