Beethoven, 5th and 6th Symphonies

With this concert, Jordi Savall is repeating his wildly successful full cycle of Beethoven’s symphonies, which he started in 2019 at the helm of Le Concert des Nations at L’Auditori. Culminating in 2021 at the Liceu with the performance of the last two symphonies, Savall now returns to the Pau Casals Hall with the fifth and sixth. Beyond the cliché of fate knocking at the door, Symphony No. 5 challenges the conventions of the classical form with a sinuous link between the third and fourth movements, reminiscent of the technique Beethoven used in the ‘Pastoral’ symphony, a precursor to the programme music of central European post-Romanticism. This is a can’t-miss concert in the year dedicated to commemorating the bicentennial his death.
