When was the last time you really connected with someone? UNDERSTANDING is an evening about language that touches, derails and surprises. Canadian-Dutch soprano Elisabeth Hetherington, winner of the Nederlandse Muziekprijs (Dutch Music Award), teamed up with ensemble Het Muziek for this special programme. An exploration of what happens when words fail us, and of those rare moments when we find one another nonetheless.

During this concert you will hear various love songs in which language forms both a bridge and a barrier. A self-invented language of love, for example, as in Claude Vivier. The programme also includes a new composition by Rozalie Hirs, known for her musical language that is both mathematical and spiritual. In this piece, voice and violin probe one another through questions, misunderstandings, silence, and the occasional moment of clear, shared connection.
