Grammy-nominated Miho Hazama, chief conductor of the Danish Radio Big Band, brings an effortless swagger to her debut at the Bridgewater Hall.
At the heart of this jazz-inflected programme is George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue – a piano concerto threaded through with jazz freedom – followed by selected Gershwin songs reframed through Hazama’s luminous instrumental arrangements. Her own Dawn in Retiro, heard here in its world premiere re-orchestration, opens a different sound world: cinematic, spacious and quietly radiant.
