Nicolas Altstaedt and Maxim Emelyanychev have forged a close artistic partnership in concert and on disc. Gramophone ‘strongly recommended’ their ‘impressive’ recent recording of concertos by Bacewicz and Britten, in which Emelyanychev conducted the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. They turn to another essential Britten masterwork for cello this lunchtime, framing it with the two radiant movements of Beethoven’s Op. 5 No. 1 and the dream-like atmosphere of Schumann’s poetic Fantasiestücke Op. 73.
