Thrilling and thought-provoking in equal measure, the musical partnership between Théotime Langlois de Swarte and Justin Taylor has evolved and matured over more than a decade. Their recording of works by the Francoeur brothers, Louis and François, opened a window into the world of a dynasty of French violinists and composers, leading Gramophone to observe that the pair ‘conjure the sense that they are trying to spell out a language that only has beautiful words in it’. Works by Rameau, Corelli and Jean-Baptiste Anet, Corelli’s pupil, help place the Francoeur family in the ornate milieu of Baroque Paris.
