Established in 1967 with the aim of discovering and supporting outstanding musical talents, the Tokyo International Conducting Competition vigorously promotes the growth of young musicians who display a broad range of promise in an international forum. It also serves to promote cultural exchanges between representatives of different countries and to contribute to the further development of musical culture.
Now, the competition enjoys a remarkable record of introducing conductors who have gone on to achieve world-scale success. Each of these competitions has received applications from more than forty different countries and regions, and many of the young competitors selected as participants gone on to positions on the world stage.
Through this Competition, the organizers hope to continue contributing to the discovery of new talents from around the world, talents whose endeavors will define the coming era of music.

Overseas contestants (including Japanese nationals living abroad) who participate in the first preliminary round will be provided the following subsidies:
- An international airfare subsidy, to be paid at the time of registration for the first preliminary round as follows:
50,000 yen/contestant for contestants coming from Asia;
100,000 yen/contestant for contestants coming from other regions;
- Hotel accommodation, to be provided for all contestants during the period of the competition (3:00 p.m. on October 6 to 11:00 a.m. on October 15, 2024);
Please note that accommodation expenses will not be paid for hotels other than those designated by the Competition Office.

All the days of the competition will be open to the public (admission tickets required).
The prizes and cash awards are as follows:
1st Prize: Certificate, medal, and cash award of 2,000,000 yen
2nd Prize: Certificate, medal, and cash award of 1,000,000 yen
3rd Prize: Certificate, medal, and cash award of 500,000 yen
Special Award (the Hideo Saito Award): 500,000 yen
A special award (the Hideo Saito Award) is presented to a finalist selected by the Panel of Judges. It could also happen that no one is selected to receive this award. The award (including a cash award of 500,000 yen) is funded by donations from Hideo Saito’s family.
Encouragement Award: 150,000 yen
An encouragement award, which includes a cash award of 150,000 yen, shall be given to each finalist receiving an honorable mention (excluding 1st, 2nd, or 3rd prize winners).
Audience Award: 100,000 yen
The Audience Award, which includes a cash award of 100,000 yen, will be selected from among the finalists by a vote of the audience.
Debut Concerts for Prize Winners
In order to introduce the winners to the largest possible audience, debut concerts will be held on the following dates. All winners are required to perform at these concerts, for which they will be paid performance fees and the specified amount toward travel and accommodation expenses.
