Ukrainian pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk, born in Kharkiv in 1984, makes a welcome return to Wigmore Hall with his finely honed combination of virtuosity, sophisticated musicianship and engrossing pianism. His lunchtime programme begins with the invigorating Rondo in D, written while Mozart was immersed in the creation of The Marriage of Figaro, and steps from Schumann’s rapturous evocations of childhood into the searing heat of the second of Prokofiev’s so-called War Sonatas.
